Overview:
The ISL Guide is a valuable tool for making informed and impactful investments in livestock development projects. It covers sustainability in terms of the environment, animal health, and social equity. The guide is structured around key principles and six different production contexts. These elements were carefully developed through a thorough review process.
Additionally, the ISL website offers a comprehensive overview of sustainability issues and provides downloadable PDFs. It also includes links to additional resources and tools from partners for more detailed guidance on project design, implementation, and assessment. If you want to learn more about the guide, you can find additional information in the "About" section.
Using the interactive component:
The guide includes an interactive component that can be used during both the preparation and implementation of livestock projects. As a user, you will be asked to make a short sequence of selections that will generate tailored guidance and relevant indicators for your specific project.
These selections will be determined through the following steps:
- - Context or production systems (refer to Sustainability principles and production contexts).
- - Objectives: The guide provides five common goals for livestock development.
- - Interventions: The guide offers 21 common actions categorized by their objectives.
After you've made your selections, the guide provides tailored guidance and relevant indicators for your specific project, including:
- - Activities. Once an intervention is chosen, the guide lists a set of typical activities implemented under that intervention.
- - Guidance. You'll receive tailored guidance for your specific project
- - Relevant Indicators. The guide also suggests Indicators that align with the tailored guidance and are usable in the project's results framework.
